Movie Review- Kiki's Delivery Service.

This is the fourth Studio Ghilbi film I bought.  I really enjoyed it, so much so I almost dressed up like Kiki for Halloween this year.  On to the overview:

According to tradition, when a witch turns 13 she must move to a new town with next to nothing and try to make it on her own.  Kiki is armed with a broom, her new black dress and her cat Jiji when she finds her new home.  Follow her journey to becoming successful as a witch and a delivery girl and making friends in a new place.

Review 10/10.
This movie is both cute and interesting.  It's a lovely coming-of-age story with cute cats.  Haha.

Movie Review- My Neighbor Totoro.

I had wanted to see this movie for a long time before I finally got a chance to see it.  I must say honestly that I was a bit disappointed.  It wasn't as amazing as I'd heard it was.  Don't get me wrong, I like it a lot, it's very cute.  I just found it kind of boring.  If it means anything, I did buy it after seeing it a few times.  Anyways, here we go:

After moving to a new home a young girl names Mei sees a small creature collecting acorns.  Mei follows the small creature who leads her to her new neighbor, a forest spirit named Totoro.  When Mei wanders off to visit their mother in the hospital her older sister Satsuki enlists the help of Totoro and his mysterious friends to help her find Mei.

My review: 8/10.
The story is a bit slow but it's such a cute movie that I didn't mind.  My favorite parts of the movie are when each girl meets Totoro for the first time.  I recommend watching this if you like cute movies, but not if you want to watch something deep.

Movie Review- Spirited Away.

This is the first Hayao Miyazaki film I've ever seen.  Of course when I watched it years ago, I didn't even know who he was (bad, bad, bad) I just liked the movie.  I owned it as a burned dvd, then as a VHS though I didn't own a VCR to watch it, now I bought it on DVD.  Yay!  So anyway, let's get started:

When Chihiro and her parents get lost during moving to a new town they become trapped in a magical spirit world.  Chihiro must find a way to rescue her parents and return the three of them safely to the human world.

My review: 10/10
This is my favorite Studio Ghibli film (so far anyway).  It is suitable for people of all ages, but might be frightening to very young viewers.

Shugo Chara

Do any of you watch anime?  My friend from work has recently been trying to get me into it.  So far I must say I've been enjoying it.  We started out with weekly movie days where we would get Chinese takeout and watch one of Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli films.  After Spirited Away, Ponyo, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki's Delivery Service we deciced to move on to something new.

This is when we started watching Shugo Chara.  It is also a series of manga which I have also started reading.  Anyway. it is about a young girl named Amu Hinamori who is seen as the cool, mysterious girl at school.  But Amu Hinamori is not really like that at all, and one night she wishes she was brave enough to show the world her true self.  The next morning she finds three colourful eggs in her bed.  These eggs soon hatch into Guardian Charas which are meant to help Amu be her true self.  Ran is the sporty one, Miki is an artist, and Su is good at sewing and anything in the kitchen.  Amu realizes she is not the only person at school with these Guardian Charas following her around; the Guardians (a group of students at school, kind of like a school council) also have them.  They recruit her for their group and fill her in about the eggs and characters that come from them.  Not all is well though, there are people who can make the eggs turn into X Eggs, which hatch X Characters and make the person which they came from fall into a deep depression and think they are worthless.  These bad guys work for Easter Company who's goal is to find a special X Egg so they are going around changing eggs.  What's worse is if the X Eggs isn't this special Embryo they are looking for they crush it leaving someone pretty much a zombie for the rest of their life.  The Guardians' job is to revert X Eggs and X Characters back to normal before it's too late.

Wow, that was quite the ramble.  But the show is really good so I hope you might want to get interested in it.

Movie Review: Ponyo

I just recently received Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo as a gift.  I've seen this movie at least 20 times since it came out in Canada a few months ago, but for some reason I never bought it. This is probably my new favorite animated movie, it's the cutest thing ever! 

Ponyo is the story of a young boy who finds a magic goldfish which he carries around in a bucket. The goldfish, Ponyo, is forced back to the sea by sorcerer father by some waves.  Ponyo uses her magic to become a human so she can return to Sosuke, but in the process causes a huge storm.  Can Ponyo find Sosuke and restore the balance of the universe before it's too late?

I highly recommend watching this movie.

So I am not cool like most of you out there because I don't have tv.  Me and my decided not to bother getting cable since we barely ever watched tv when we had it. But this means I have to wait until August every year to buy the newest season of Gossip Girl.  BOO!

Now that I've finished watching season 3, I think I may need to get cable NOW! Haha, the season finale was soooo good.  I laughed.  I cried. I cried some more. I definately recommend watching GG if you don't already.
